“Jon flexed the fingers of his sword hand. The Night’s Watch takes no part. He closed his fist and opened it again. What you propose is nothing less than treason. He thought of Robb, with snowflakes melting in his hair. Kill the boy and let the man be born. He thought of Bran, clambering up a tower wall, agile as a monkey. Of Rickon’s breathless laughter. Of Sansa, brushing out Lady’s coat and singing to herself. You know nothing, Jon Snow. He thought of Arya, her hair as tangled as a bird’s nest.”

Vanity Fair Interview With Kit Harington

Quite a lot of actors in this show auditioned for different roles, and then they found that they liked the actor that didn’t know that they were right for that role and eventually found the right fit for certain people. But with Jon, it was the first role I went up for. I had three auditions for it and got it. To be honest, when I read the first pilot and I saw him on paper, even before I went up for the role, I liked things in him that I would’ve naturally been drawn to anyway. I think he’s a fabulous character to be able to play in the kind of mystery he has surrounding him and the fact that he’s a young hero and he’s got this wonderful storyline ahead of him, this lonely road he has to go on.

IGN Interview: Game of Thrones Season 3 - Kit Harington

ofriverrun:

Excerpt: Here Be Dragons (minor spoilers)

With this many storylines whizzing by like arrows, some are bound to thud to earth rather than hit their mark. A second episode monologue by Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley), about her relationship with her late husband’s bastard Jon Snow (Kit Harington), is particularly head-scratching, almost tantamount to outright character assassination. And diehard fans of the books may be perturbed by a change to a subplot involving hapless Night’s Watch knight Samwell Tarly (John Bradley). In fact, several shocking revelations within the novels are seemingly spelled out for the viewer rather than left until later to unfurl as major plot twists.

But there are still plenty of mysteries and surprises in store in an otherwise stellar start to the season. Season 3 of Game of Thrones promises to be its best yet, a triumphant and commanding addition to the series, one that asks tough questions about glory and defeat, oaths and bonds, and about the nature of power, an issue that lies at the heart of Martin’s work. What is its true cost? And what are we each willing to do in order to attain even a rare sliver of influence? In the midst of war, is there any semblance of humanity left?

These are questions that are typically found in the weightiest of literature, rather than in a drama about a fractured kingdom, where dormant magic—embodied by three dragons—is slowly returning to the world. But that is part of the beauty and wonder of Game of Thrones: it poses existential questions as it engages in the sort of sex and violence you would expect from a premium cable program.

The second episode of season three will be called “Dark Wings, Dark Words” and was written by Vanessa Taylor and directed by Dan Minahan.

Interesting.

As usual, playing the waiting game to see what the above is all about and how it ties in with what is said in this portion of this recent WinterIsComing Interview With Michelle Fairley, Maisie Williams and Isaac Hempstead-Wright:

FaB: Michelle, one of our readers asked you a question: Isabelle asks: If Catelyn were to encounter Jon Snow, somehow, would anything be different between the two of them, do you feel? Could she bury the hatchet, or is there too much water under that bridge?

Michelle: That’s a very interesting question. Because part of that is mentioned in season 3. And I think she… The whole thing about Jon Snow with Catelyn is he is the physical embodiment of infidelity. That’s the way she sees it.

FaB: And something that Ned generally would not do.

Michelle: Yes. And unfortunately, she isn’t able to move on from that. And he is the manifestation of her dead husband’s sin. And her anger and hatred is misplaced, actually. And it’s channelled into Jon Snow. And I think… at this point, in season 3, given the opportunity she would try… she would do everything in her body to try and make amends with him. But I don’t know how successful she would be. It’s so ingrained. So ingrained. And she is human.
